The Faces of Shalom
Our conflict management workshops throughout Kenya aim to empower victims of inter-ethnic conflict in the fight for sustainable peace. We work hand in hand with community influencers so that they may learn to prevent conflict before it happens. These are their stories.
Conflict Management Workshops in Lodungkwe, Todonyang and Kainuk
This month’s Faces of Shalom focus will look at three participants of our conflict management workshop in the areas of Lodungkwe, Todonyang and Kainuk. Read a short Q&A with participants of our workshops and learn the reasons behind their search for peace.
Why are you participating in the Lodungokwe workshop?
I have a passion for peace building. Our history of conflict has to change and we must look to building peace amongst ourselves and then our neighbours. These conflicts are preventing development in our areas. At the SCCRR workshop, I can learn more about peace and the techniques to build peace.
What do you hope to be able to bring back to your community after graduating from Lodungokwe workshop?
I will use the skills to enhance peace efforts and also I am interested with the conflict between wildlife and the community,
Why are you participating in Todonyang workshop?
I am a teacher, one is always trying to learn more and education has an important role to play in our community. Becasue of the circumstances of our living here and the conflict with our nieghbour, I am happy to attend this workshop to learn more about peace.
What do you hope to be able to bring back to your community after graduating from Todonyang workshop?
This workshop will help me in order to reach out to our neighbours. As a teacher, I am a role model for the pupils in my school so I think this will further our aim to create a culture of peace amongst our children
Why are you participating in Kainuk workshop?
I want to know more about the way forward in bringing peace to my community. There seems no end to the continuous violence so we have to learn how we can put a stop to it.
What do you hope to be able to bring back to your community after graduating from Kainuk workshop?
I want to see development in this area.Peace will see our local economy grow, so we can afford to send our children to school. Sharing and teaching about peace in my community will help to change things and build a better future with the help of Shalom.
