The executive chairman of Shalom was front and center in the media’s coverage of the historic Papal trip to Africa, which concludes today. Fr. Patrick Devine was a featured guest on the popular Jeff Koinange Live newscast on the KTN network during the visit of Pope Francis to Kenya.
The Pope’s visit served to inspire many of the people served by Shalom in the efforts toward peace and reconciliation, and his message amplified Shalom’s own vision of a world where peace and dignity are shared by all people.
“Our world has a grave social debt toward the poor who lack access to drinking water because they are denied a life consistent with their inalienable dignity,” said Pope Francis, during a visit to a slum community. The Pope discussed the “dreadful injustice of social exclusion” that results from poverty and a lack of self determination and economic rights.

Pope Francis echoed the basis for Shalom’s work in eastern Africa during his stay in Kenya: “All men and women of good will are called to work for reconciliation and peace, forgiveness and healing.”
