Capping a busy trip to the United States to meet with supporters and key nonprofit and international officials, Shalom Chairman Fr. Patrick Devine will speak at Harvard Law School next week on conflict resolution and the organization’s model for bringing peace to eastern Africa.
The address is co-sponsored by Harvard Negotiators and the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Fr. Devine will also speak at a Harvard luncheon on Monday.
This past week, Shalom’s U.S. nonprofit affiliate hosted a reception in midtown Manhattan for more than 40 supporters and nonprofit and international leaders. During the reception, Fr. Devine gave a short talk about Shalom’s work in the last year and its success helping to bring peace to tribal lands in northern Kenya. He spoke movingly of how important American support – financial and otherwise – remains for Shalom’s sustainability.
“We say always that peace is not the mere absence of war, but that it involves human development, education and commitment,” said Fr. Devine at the reception. “Please know that support from the U.S. means so much to the entire Shalom team.”
