Irish Ambassador To Kenya Meets With Shalom And IGAD Leadership

SCCRR has engaged again on diplomacy and advocacy interventions with state actors. The Irish Ambassador to Kenya, His Excellency Vincent O’Neill; the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), His Excellency, Mahboub Maalim; and the Executive Chairman of Shalom Center for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation, Fr. Patrick Devine, met recently in Nairobi.

During their meeting they were able to discuss issues of peace and development in Kenya and the wider IGAD region; IGAD is comprised of eight countries in the Horn of Africa – Djibouti, Somalia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Kenya.

In addition, the three leaders also discussed the upcoming conference on “Conflict, Security and Development in Africa” that will be held in Ireland in June, 2015. The conference is being organized by the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for Conflict Intervention (National University of Ireland, Maynooth) in association with the Shalom Center here in Africa.

Both Ambassador Maalim and Fr. Patrick will address the conference on relevant issues on approaches to peace and development in Africa.
